Abstract: Symbiotic interaction between invertebrates and microorganisms is a prominent feature of the marine ecosystem. Marine invertebrates act as hosts to microbes and provide them with nutrients while, microbes produce metabolites that often act as protectors to their hosts. The present study investigates the bioactive potential of the microbial inhabitants of the Fijian sea hare, Dolabella auricularia, which is a local delicacy for the indigenous community. Although bioactive compounds from the sea hare had been well studied, little is known about its microbial inhabitants. A total of 57 bacterial strains were isolated from different body parts of the species including the internal organs, external skin and internal skin tissues.
