Abstract: The government led export programs are perceived as a mechanism for promoting export oriented firms to gain further advantage in existing export markets as well gain access in new markets. In doing so, an economy may undertake various export programs. However, the impact of these government funded export programs remains unclear. The Fiji government initiated the National Export Strategy (NES) in 2007 with the emphasis of narrowing the widening trade deficit balance. It was administered by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism with the focus on the six prioritized sectors (Agro-Business, Forestry, Marine Products, Mineral Water, ICT and Audio Visual). This study investigates the role and impact of Fiji’s National Export Strategy on the assisted firm’s export values over the period 2007 – 2014.
