Abstract: The thesis is concerned with assessing the relevance of the current Values Education curriculum meeting the changing needs of young people in society today and the need to revamp the curriculum through its trans-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach. In exploring the perceptions of parents, teachers, students and community members of their understanding of the current Values Education program, the thesis highlights the nonuniformity of the programs adopted by secondary schools. The explorations include a comparative study of the values/virtues knowledge of form 3 to form 5 students of the selected schools, by ethnicity and Values Education hours of study. The thesis also explores the emergence of a bench-mark to assess the values/virtues learned at each level at secondary school. In light of the challenges that our young people currently face, the thesis offers an assessment framework to integrate Values Education into the current day to day teaching and running of a school. The thesis also points to interesting areas for future explorations in the broad research interest of development of the country’s human capital for economic stability through Values Education. One such topical thesis would be a study of students of a school system with an integrated assessment approach and students as products of a non-integral system.
