Abstract: For a century the representation of Indo-Fijian women in literature has come predominantly from men. This thesis examines how Indo-Fijian women have been represented in Indo-Fijian and other related prose, from the indenture period through to the twenty-first century. The written accounts and observations of the indenture period are limited, and what does exist is written from three main perspectives: colonial patriarchy, Indian patriarchy, and colonial proto-feminist.
